Police appeal after alleged assault in Sherborne v Wellington rugby match

AN assault during a rugby match in Sherborne is being investigated by police.

The incident is alleged to have happened during the first half of a game between Sherborne RFC and Wellington RFC at the Terrace Playing Fields on Saturday, March 4.

The victim attended hospital for treatment where it was found that he had sustained fractures to his eye socket and cheek bone.

Detective Constable Liam Moss, of Dorset County CID, said: “I understand this incident may have been witnessed by a number of people at the match and would ask them to please come forward.

“We are conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened and would ask anyone with information to help our investigation or mobile phone footage of the incident to please get in touch.”
