PLANS for a new, 380-home “residential neighbourhood” – including a country park – on the outskirts of Yeovil have been submitted.
Pad Design Ltd, on behalf of Hallam Land, has submitted an outline planning application to Dorset Council for a development on land at Compton Road, Yeovil.
A village green and play area are part of the plans, as well as “improvements for walking and cycling along Compton Road”.
The 93-acre site is bordered by the A30 Babylon Hill to the south, with the application stating it provides an opportunity to provide much-needed housing, alongside “active travel through improvements along this route and towards the town centre”, including the proximity of Pen Mill station and bus routes on the A30.
Up to 380 homes could be developed, including 35% (133) being ‘affordable dwellings’, the application said, with a new access junction created on the southern side of Compton Road.

“The site’s proximity to, physical connectivity to, and functional integration with Yeovil constitutes a highly sustainable and suitable location for residential development, relative to the majority of northwest Dorset and indeed southeast Somerset,” the application said.
The site is on the boundary between the Dorset Council and Somerset Council areas, on the south side of Yeovil, with the plans saying the scheme “accords with the general thrust of both (former) West Dorset and South Somerset’s spatial strategies that seek to direct the most growth to the top tier settlements”.

Consultations with the public had led to the plans tackling concerns over flooding and drainage, the application said, as well as plans for increases in infrastructure use to be dealt with as part of a section 106 agreement, which would see developers contribute to the financial provision of services.
The scheme will now be considered by Dorset Council. For more details, and to comment on the plans, log on to dorsetcouncil.gov.uk and search application reference P/OUT/2026/04250.
