PLANS for 34 new homes in Gillingham have been submitted.
The scheme, part of the town’s previously approved southern extension, would see the homes built on a parcel of land at Ham Farm.
The Newhouse and Ham Farm site is one of four set to accommodate more than 950 homes as part of the larger Gillingham Southern Extension scheme, approved in September 2021.
This 34-home application, for a 7.3-acre plot, would include three shared ownership and four affordable rent properties, as well as infrastructure.
It has been submitted by developer, Redrow Homes.
“This includes access roads and footpaths, parking for residents and visitors, private amenity space, public open space, as well as enhanced drainage and landscaping features,” it said.
Existing landscaping would be used to create ‘beautiful green spaces promoting social interaction and a sense of ownership’, the application went on.
“The development will provide a mix of house types, tenures and densities to reflect a wide range of household requirements, creating a varied character which responds positively to local vernacular and providing much needed housing to Gillingham,” it added.
A spine road along the southern border of the site has already been built, connecting with the B3081 Shaftesbury Road to the east with the B3092 New Road to the west.
“The site is made up of arable fields, formerly used for farming,” the application said.
“Directly bordering the application site on all boundaries are other arable fields which make up the wider Ham Farm development.
“Additional residential parcels will be located to the north, south and west of the site, with the local centre being located to the east.
“Sports pitches will be located to the south east.”
Residents can comment on the application until June 10. For more details, visit www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk and search for application reference P/RES/2023/02376.
