Patient visits beloved horses one last time

AMBULANCE crews helped accommodate one patient’s special request as they were transferred to palliative care – ensuring they got to see their beloved horses one last time.

A crew from EMA Patient Transport was on hand to help ensure the patient was comfortable and safe as they made the emotional trip to see the animals in Shaftesbury, before travelling on to CHD Living’s Brownscombe Lodge Care Residences, in Surrey.

A spokesperson for EMA said “some journeys stay with you forever”.

“It wasn’t a hospital appointment. It wasn’t a routine transfer. It was a chance to create one last precious memory,” they said.

“Our crew were honoured to make that possible, ensuring the patient was comfortable, supported and given the time they needed to enjoy those special moments before continuing their journey to Brownscombe Lodge.

“These are the journeys that remind us why compassionate palliative transport is about so much more than getting from A to B. It’s about helping people maintain their dignity, fulfil meaningful wishes and create lasting memories with the people, places and animals they love most.”

They added: “Because sometimes the most important journey isn’t measured in miles, but in moments.”
