Paddington and James Bond star Ben Whishaw shocks Somerset farm shoppers

SHOPPERS at a farm shop near Wincanton got a shock when they noticed a film crew and a BAFTA-winning actor in the aisles.

Ben Whishaw, famous for being the voice of Paddington and playing Q in recent James Bond films, was at Kimber’s Farm Shop in Charlton Musgrove earlier this month.

The 42-year-old was in Somerset to complete work on a short film, which was set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, highlighting bereavement in young people.

“We were contacted and asked if the film crew could use our shop as a set in a short film being made to highlight bereavement in young people,” said shop owner, Ruth Kimber.

“We were pleased to help.

“About 35 people turned up, including Ben Whishaw, who played the film’s main character.

“The amount of kit was amazing, as was the detail they went to with light and so on, blacking out the windows and doors and even the rooflights.”

And she said the activity brought some bemused reactions from bargain hunters at the store.

“They started preparing to film while we were still open, which amused and surprised our customers,” she added.

“They were a nice bunch of people.”
