Owners of legendary Triumph Stag gather in Mere for meet and run-out

A MEET and run-out celebrating the legendary Triumph Stag took place in Mere on Sunday (August 20).

The Somerset and Dorset Stag Owners Club gathered at the Salisbury Street Car Park in Mere for its a Summer Country Run.

After the trip, which also took the cars into Wiltshire, members feasted at Street farm Court in Kilmington.

“One owner informed me he bought his Stag used in 1979 for 900, he was 26 at the time and has kept it ever since, with over 100,000 miles on the clock and on the same engine, which is an achievement for some Stags,” said George Jeans, of Mere.

“One owner purchased a Stag in 1972 for about £2,300, which was £100 over the new cost. You had to pay then if you wanted one as they were in short supply.”

Another Stag on show was fitted with a CB radio.

“I wonder who can remember those?” George added.
