New head of prep unveiled at prestigious Sherborne school

A PRESTIGIOUS Dorset prep school has unveiled its new leader.

Leweston School has confirmed the appointment of Richard Thompson as the new head of prep, with effect from September.

Mr Thompson, currently deputy head of Old Hall School in Shropshire, will succeed Alanda Phillips, who has led the school for the past seven years.

Educated at Salisbury Cathedral School and Canford, Mr Thompson holds a BA in Geography and French Language and Literature, as well as a PGCE from Oxford Brookes University.

“I am delighted to be appointed as the new head of prep at Leweston, a school that prides itself on its family-focused ethos and its exceptional breadth of opportunities for every learner,” he said.

“Leweston has a proud history and I am privileged to be able to play a lead role in shaping an exciting future for the school.

“Having been educated in Dorset, I am thrilled to be returning to the area with my family and to be joining such a warm and welcoming community.”

Mr Thompson will take up the role in September

Prior to his current role, he was head of teaching and learning and head of geography at St Andrew’s School in Berkshire.

He also spent seven years living and working in Auckland, New Zealand, where he was head of geography at Pakuranga College.

Ian Lucas, chair of governors at Leweston School, added: “Mr Thompson brings to Leweston Prep experience which encompasses primary and secondary years in both independent and state sectors.

“I have no doubt that Mr Thompson’s understanding of what makes Leweston Prep special and his belief in our ethos and values will ensure stability and continuity.

“I am confident that Mr Thompson will build on Miss Phillips’ outstanding legacy and that Leweston Prep will continue to flourish under his leadership.”
