Officers from Dorset Police are now working to establish exactly what happened and are urging anyone who may have seen the incident to come forward.

Sergeant Paul Hind, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “We are investigating the full circumstances of this collision and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please contact us.

“I would also ask that any motorists with dashcam who were travelling in the vicinity around the time of the collision please check their footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.”

The busy stretch of road was affected as emergency crews responded to the incident, with the air ambulance landing nearby to provide urgent medical care.

Investigators are particularly keen to hear from drivers who may have been travelling through the area in the moments leading up to the collision, as even small details could prove crucial.
