Marie Curie volunteers needed to aid supermarket collections in Shaftesbury and Gillingham

VOLUNTEERS are needed to organise supermarket collections in Shaftesbury and Gillingham for Marie Curie, the UK’s leading end of life charity.

Holding just a few collections in the local area per year would help Marie Curie raise the vital funds and awareness they need to continue providing end of life care and support.

Kara Frampton, Marie Curie Community Fundraiser for Dorset says that on average a collection in Dorset can raise over £400 which she says is enough for Marie Curie to provide 17 hours of vital nursing care for someone living with an illness they’re likely to die from.

She said: “In the area, we need volunteers to help with organising collections at local supermarkets.

“Once a date is set, they will find willing people to help collect on the day, bank the money after the collection and thank all involved. Full training and equipment will be provided, and of course ongoing support from myself.

“Here in Dorset, we have a large team of Marie Curie nurses and healthcare assistants who care for people in their own homes.

“I’m lucky enough to meet or speak to people every day who tell me about the amazing impact Marie Curie have had on them and their families during one of the most difficult times of their lives.”

Last year Marie Curie provided care to more than 44,000 people across the UK via hospices, as well as through nursing visits to people’s own homes day and night.

In Dorset, Marie Curie provides end of life care to people in the comfort of their own homes and has a large team of nurses and healthcare assistants across Dorset to support this.

Over the next five years Marie Curie aims to double the number of people across the UK being cared for and supported, whether in homes, its hospices or through its free information and support services.
