Man killed in A303 crash at Camel Hill – between Podimore and Sparkford

A MAN was killed in a crash on the A303 yesterday afternoon (May 15).

The incident happened at Camel Hill, between the Podimore and Sparkford roundabouts, at around 2.40pm.

Avon and Somerset Police said two vehicles were involved in the incident.

“Sadly, the driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene,” they added.

“Our thoughts of with his family at this difficult time and a specialist family liaison officer will now provide them with support.

“The man’s passenger and the driver of the other vehicle, both women, were taken to hospital with serious injuries following the collision.”

The road was closed between the Podimore (A37) and Sparkford (A359) roundabouts while emergency services responded, causing long delays on surrounding roads until around 6.30pm.

Enquiries into the incident continue, police added.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said they were called to the scene at 2.43pm.

“We sent three double-crew land ambulances, two air ambulances, an operations officer and a critical care car,” they said.

“Two individuals were conveyed by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital.”
