‘Major incident’ declared after flooding in Somerset and Dorset

A MAJOR incident has been declared after flooding hit Somerset roads.

Heavy rainfall on Tuesday afternoon (May 9) saw some routes submerged in water, causing traffic problems, with some vehicles even getting stuck.

Lawrence Hill in Wincanton has cleared this morning, after a number of vehicles appeared to get stuck in the flooding.

However, the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) said a ‘major incident’ had been declared after rainfall in some areas.

They urged people to avoid driving through floodwater and to call 999 if in an emergency.

Meanwhile, a number of flood warnings remain in place across the country, including in Somerset and Dorset, with some showers forecast on Wednesday.
