Lorry full of straw catches fire on A303 near Chicklade

A LORRY carrying straw caught fire on the A303 yesterday morning (September 30).

Firefighters were called to the scene, between the A350 junction and Chicklade, at just after 7.40am.

Crews from Shaftesbury, Warminster, Mere and the water carrier from Wilton were sent to the scene, along with an appliance from Wincanton.

A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the fire which started in the cab area and spread to the straw load.

“The road was closed in both directions while crews worked to put the fire out,” they added.
