‘Keep doors and windows shut’: Crews tackling barn fire in Melcombe Bingham

FIRE crews are still dealing with a barn fire in a Vale village – with residents being urged to keep windows and doors shut.

Firefighters from Dorchester, Sturminster Newton and Poole were first sent to the blaze, in the Melcombe Bingham area, at just after 9.15pm last night (Monday, October 2).

“On arrival the barn, containing bales, was well alight and an assistance message was sent which came from Weymouth Fire Station, Blandford Fire Station, Sherborne Fire Station and a second water carrier from Bridport Fire Station,” a Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said.

“Crews worked hard to prevent the fire spreading to nearby barns using multiple hoses and breathing apparatus.

“This incident is still ongoing, so please keep doors and windows closed if you live in the area due to the smoke plume.”
