Jailhouse Café all ready to rock with Christmas bookings

The Jailhouse Café at HMP Guys Marsh reopened to the general public in May followed by a new farm shop in June.

They work with the prison service offering real work experience and training opportunities to prisoners on day release. The ROTL scheme (release on temporary licence) allows the men to leave the confines of the prison and work either in the jailhouse café or the seasonal farm shop, giving the men the chance to learn a trade and to understand the importance of hard work, ready for them to be released back into the community.

The café is open Monday to Friday from 10am-3pm serving drinks, snacks and lunches.

They are hoping to continue to develop the café and shop and their range of events. They are now taking table bookings for Christmas dinners from December 6-21, with the menu on their Facebook page and in the café. There’s also a Christmas raffle for the chance to win a luxury hamper, plus other goodies handcrafted by inmates.

Pop in and check out their unique branded Jailhouse merchandise. From hessian jute bags to jams and chutneys, pens and key rings.

The cafe would like to thank people for their support.

Head chef and manager Georgina Waldron said: “Without your help we would be unable to continue the work that we do to help those in custody. For anyone that hasn’t been yet, be sure to come and visit us on the lead up to Christmas! We look forward to seeing all of you very soon!”
