High standards praised at Blandford school in latest Ofsted inspection

BLANDFORD St Mary Church of England Primary School has been praised for its welcoming and inclusive environment.

This comes after Ofsted inspectors came to the school in March.

The school, led by Headteacher Rosaleen Beaver, has been praised for maintaining the high standards identified in its previous inspection.

The report noted that pupils are happy, safe, and proud of their school, attending regularly and demonstrating positive attitudes towards learning.

But it also suggested that recent refinements made by the school to the curriculum “are not yet securely in place across all subjects”, meaning some pupils have gaps in their subject-specific knowledge.

The report also found that the information the school records about safeguarding incidents sometimes lacks sufficient detail.

Headteacher Rosaleen Beaver expressed her pride in the school’s achievements.

She said: “We are delighted with the inspection outcome.

“It reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff, pupils, and the entire school community. Our focus on creating a nurturing and inclusive environment ensures that every child feels valued and supported.”

The school’s ambitious curriculum, which has recently been refined to identify essential knowledge and vocabulary, was also highlighted as a strength.

Pupils are building on their previous learning and developing a broad body of knowledge across subjects.

The school’s commitment to reading, writing, and mathematics from the Reception Year ensures that pupils have the essential knowledge they need as they progress through their education.

Parents have praised the school for its compassionate and nurturing atmosphere including those who said: “The school goes above and beyond in supporting and protecting our children.

“We couldn’t be happier with the education and care our children receive.”

Mark Lacey, CEO of the Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust, which oversees the school, said: “Blandford St Mary Church of England Primary School exemplifies the values and standards we strive for across all our schools.

“The dedication of the headteacher and her team is truly commendable, and we are proud to support their ongoing efforts to provide an excellent education for all pupils.”
