Hairy coos to be guest stars at village fete near Dorchester

A VILLAGE fete will celebrate all things countryside this June – and some very hairy guests will be the star attractions.

The Piddletrenthide & Plush Fete is taking place from 1pm to 4.30pm on June 7 at The Manor House in Piddletrenthide just eight miles from Dorchester.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet a pair of charming Highland cattle – affectionately called hairy coos due to their distinct fluffy coat.

A fun-filled day of activities is on offer, catering to all ages – this includes an opportunity to guess the name of the baby coo.

“The hairy coos are local residents who will be with us for the day and have inspired this year’s theme,” organisers said.

“Join us for hairy coo games, skittles, village stocks, junior tug of war, and the ever – popular china smash.

“For our younger visitors, there’s a children’s cake competition, games, a bouncy castle, and popular entertainer Smartie Pants the Clown.

“Plenty of your favourite traditional stalls, cream teas, and a cash raffle are also on offer, all set in the beautiful grounds of Piddletrenthide’s late 18th-century Manor House.

“Take in the scenery whilst enjoying music from Nina Garcia and the bar and BBQ.

“Don’t forget to bring your four-legged friends – the dog show, with fabulous pet prizes, starts at 3pm!”
