Gillingham race night raised £2,000 for air ambulance charities

A RACE night raised much-needed funds for air ambulance services in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire.

The event, in September, was hosted at The Old Brewery by the Gillingham, Mere & Shaftesbury Lions (GMS).

Race lovers attending the event, in Gillingham, raised cash two local air ambulance charities – Dorset & Somerset and Wiltshire.

And organisers said the November 6 evening was “a resounding success”, raising £2,000 to be divided between the two emergency organisations.

GMS presented a donation to Somerset Air Ambulance at their base, on Henstridge Airfield.

Lions president, Janet Godden, alongside other group members, presented the cheque to critical care
practitioner, Lauren Dyson.

Janet said: “I am so grateful to all the sponsors and supporters of our Race Night that allowed us to donate to such a worthy cause.

“I am sure we all know someone who has had to call upon the services of this wonderful organisation, staffed by the most caring and professional crew and medics.”

The air ambulance helicopter G-DSAA (‘Peggy’ or ‘Pegasus’ as it is known) permanently displays the Lions International logo in recognition of the support given by various Lions Clubs of Dorset and Somerset over the years.
