Gillingham play area now under town council ownership

THE Lodden Lakes play area in Gillingham is now in public ownership.

This comes after the successful transfer of the play area from developer Taylor Wimpey to Gillingham Town Council, which the council says marks a long-term investment in the wellbeing of local children and families.

The council will now be responsible for maintaining the park, and it has been supported in this maintenance through a financial contribution from Taylor Wimpey, which was specifically allocated for the upkeep of the site.

They added that the funding will help ensure the sustainability of the play area without placing an additional burden on taxpayers.

Gillingham Mayor councillor Fiona Cullen said the council is delighted about the transfer.

“Well-designed play areas, like the one at Lodden Lakes, give children valuable opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive in a safe and stimulating environment,” she said.

“They also help strengthen community ties by providing a welcoming space where families can meet and connect.

“By securing this space, we are investing in the wellbeing of our youngest residents and helping to build a strong sense of belonging for everyone.”
