Gillingham and Shaftesbury show asks visitors to be aware of nearby urgent road closures

VISITORS to the upcoming Gillingham and Shaftesbury Show may find their journey affected by last-minute emergency road closures in the area.

Show organisers have been advised by Dorset Council that urgent repairs will take place on the Melbury Abbas/Spread Eagle Hill (C13) and this area will be closed for 24 hours a day over the four-day period from August 12 – 16.

A signed diversion will be in place to divert traffic onto the A30.

The show takes place from August 14 – 16 at the Turnpike Showground in Motcombe.

Show organiser Cat Harris said: “We have received notification of this work with less than a week to go before our annual rural show.

“I am assured by Dorset Council that clear signage will be in place to divert traffic onto the A30 and keep it flowing as easily as possible.

“The timing is not ideal but out of our hands. According to Dorset Council, the closure is because of urgent highways works that cannot be postponed.

“Traffic in the area gets very busy with exhibitors and visitors to the show so we would urge anyone coming to the show to be aware of these issues in advance of travelling and perhaps allow more time to get to and from the showground.”

This renowned agricultural event, organised by the Gillingham & Shaftesbury Agricultural Society, is celebrating 30 years at the Turnpike Showground in Motcombe, so this year promises to be even more special.

Expect a line-up of stunning attractions – livestock parades, agricultural and countryside exhibits, equestrian events, vintage machinery and cars, charming steam engines, live bands, a funfair and many other exciting attractions.

As well as an array of rare and unusual sheep, cattle, pigs and goats, this year welcomes Joseph’s Amazing Camels to the main arena.
