Free places up for grabs at Yeovil summer activities for young people

FREE places are up for grabs at summer activities for children in Yeovil.

Funding has been secured for 40 free places for the events, at the Octagon Theatre and Westlands Entertainment Venue, through the Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership (SASP) and the Happy Healthy Holidays Somerset scheme.

Happy Healthy Holidays Somerset provides funding to enable groups to deliver a variety of holiday activities including food to children eligible for benefits-related free school meals across Somerset.

The Octagon and Westlands, with support from Somerset Council and SASP, are pleased to offer a limited amount of free places to children aged between seven and 18 in receipt of Free School Meals to take part for free in two of our action-packed summer school activities during the holidays.

Possible attendees can choose to take part in the following activities:

  • Stuff & Nonsense Theatre Summer School: Puppet Cabaret, Monday August 14 to 18, 10am to 4pm daily, 12 – 18 years old.
  • Somerset Youth Dance Summer School: The Greatest Show, Monday August 21 to 25, 10am to 4pm, seven – 16 years old.

Katherine Hoskins, arts engagement and outreach manager for The Octagon Theatre and Westlands Entertainment Venue, said: “Thanks to SASP, we can offer 40 spaces on our Summer Schools to children who may not otherwise be able to have this type of opportunity.

“We are delighted to have once again been successful for funding and offer opportunities for children and young people to take part in our activities for free this summer.

“The arts help to engage young peoples minds and captivate them so our Summer Schools really offer an exciting opportunity for many to keep busy over the long summer holiday period.”

There are 20 spaces are up for grabs for both of the Summer School activities on a first-come, first-served basis.

To book activities, parents and carers will need to have their unique booking code provided by their child’s school or referrer.
