Four-bed hotel plans for barn near Sarah Beeny’s Somerset estate

A STONEY Stoke barn – neighbouring celebrity property developer Sarah Beeny’s Somerset estate – could be converted into a four-bedroom hotel, if plans are approved.

A planning application has been submitted to Somerset Council by agent assetsphere on behalf of a Mr Heal, for the change of use of a barn at Trendle Lane to a hotel.

The scheme would see the existing barn structure renovated to create a four-bed premises on the site, near Wincanton, with an access created to Trendle Lane.

“The layout of the site is largely unchanged, only a section of wall is proposed for demolition and reconstruction to facilitate the access to the site and give structural definition to the proposed parking area,” the application said.

Plans aimed to “preserve the agricultural character of the barn”, it went on, with the hotel measuring just over 196.17sqm.

Four parking spaces – one for each room – are proposed, along with a visitor space, as well as a motorcycle space and cycle parking. Electric vehicle charging points would also be installed.

The site lies in the boundary of the grade II-listed Redlynch Park, though sits some 880m from the main house and is screened by trees and hedgerows, the application added.

It is not far from TV presenter Sarah Beeny’s Stoke Farm estate, which itself applied for permission to convert a number of barns and outbuildings into homes earlier this year.

Renovation work proposed “sits entirely within the parameters of the existing building”, the application added, with the development having “minimal to no impact on the registered park and garden or setting” of the listed property.

The scheme will now be considered by council planners.
