Sherborne resident Anthea and Adrian Mitchell are extremely proud of their daughter Joanna Broderick, a children’s community nurse, who has been formally recognised for her dedication to improving care for patients. The title of Queen’s Nurse is awarded to nurses who have demonstrated a high level of commitment to patient care and nursing practice. Born and brought up in Dorset, Joanna attended Gryphon School before studying at the University of Southampton. She has been a nurse for 24 years and works for the Specialist Children’s Community Nursing Team (Eastern Devon) for Children and Family Health Devon, caring for children and young people with long term conditions, acute conditions, complex health care needs and at end of their life. Upon receipt of the award, Joanna said, “I feel honoured and delighted to achieve this prestigious award, alongside my colleagues Lisa and Laura. I really want to say that the families and children I have worked with for 18 years make working in the Children’s Community Nursing Service so rewarding and humbling, and it is a privilege to work with them.”
