Find a new career – or start learning something new – at Blandford event

ADULTS wanting to boost their employment prospects, learn a new skill or hobby, or change career, can find out about possible paths at an event in Blandford tomorrow (Friday).

Learnfest is taking place at the Blandford Adult Learning Centre, in Black Lane, hosted by Skills & Learning, Dorset Council’s adult education provider.

At the event, which runs from 2pm to 6pm, visitors will be able to talk to tutors and advisors about the hundreds of adult education courses available from this September.

Skills & Learning has 30 learning centres offering daytime and evening courses across the county.

Unlike traditional education, adult learning is designed to be flexible, with a mixture of online and face-to-face courses, the service promises.

Courses are easily accessible for all residents, including those with disabilities or childcare commitments.

Financial help and even free courses are available, depending on learners’ personal circumstances and for learners with additional needs, the Learning Support team is available to support learners with their study.

Members of the Skills & Learning Advice and Guidance team will be on hand to give more information on courses and how they can support learners.

The Employability team will also be available throughout the day to give a free ‘CV health check’ if required.

From noon until 2pm, businesses and organisations are also invited to attend to find out how Skills & Learning can produce tailored courses to support their staff.

Baylie Hart, curriculum manager at Skills & Learning, said: “There are so many benefits to being an adult learner. Every week we meet people who are using learning to increase their resilience, to build new relationships and friendships and to open up new opportunities in their work lives.

“Whether you want to study for fun, get some qualifications, re-train, or simply learn how to order food and drinks when you are travelling, the possibilities are endless, and a simple chat with one of our advisors could be potentially life-changing.”
