Dorset village pub applies for shepherd huts as guest accommodation

AN application has been submitted for two shepherd huts on land at a Dorset pub.

Weatherby Planning & Design has submitted an application on behalf of The Oak at Dewlish, for the siting of two huts in the pub grounds, to be used as additional guest accommodation.

The application outlines the plans in a bid for a certificate of lawfulness to be ordered for the scheme, without the need for full planning permission.

“The public house contains three bed and breakfast ensuite rooms, staff accommodation and a two-bedroom holiday cottage known as The Coach House,” it said.

“The use of shepherds huts would be for additional as bespoke, ‘something different’ guest accommodation only, in addition to the existing guest accommodation available,” it went on.

“They will not be used as self-contained accommodation at any time, it will be ancillary guest accommodation to the public house.”

It concludes: “The use of land proposed would not amount to a material change in the use of the land on which the Shepherds Huts (caravans) are to be sited.

“Therefore, they would not fall within the meaning of development set out in (law), and no planning permission is required.”

Dorset Council planners will now consider the scheme. For more details, and to comment on the plans, log on to www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk and search for application reference P/CLP/2023/07130.
