Dorset cadets’ march effort raises more than £7,000 for combat charity

MORE than 30 people marched 10 miles to raise funds for a cadet group.

March 29 saw 30 cadets and seven staff members from the Thomas Hardye School CCF take part in the March in March for Combat Stress event.

So far, with Gift Aid donations, a total of £7,753.19 has been raised for the cause.

Lead fundraiser, Sgt Jessica Rose (Year 12), has raised nearly £800 on her own.

“I decided to take part in the March in March for Combat Stress this year because I believe it is a wonderful charity that helps veterans get the support they need,” she said.

“I wanted to do something meaningful for all the veterans who have served.

“These veterans have sacrificed so much for our country, and I wanted to give something back to them.

“Our contribution to this amazing charity will support so many people, whether it’s through the call line or virtual art therapy sessions. This will make a difference in someone’s life, whether they know it now or not.”

CCF Contingent Commander, Maj Kevin Matthews, said: “It was a great day, albeit a cold one. Our cadets are amazing people, and they truly went above and beyond with their commitment to fundraising.

“I’m enormously proud of them all. This event has proven that this generation cares about others and is willing to endure difficulty and hardship for the benefit of others.”
