Did you cycle to work last week?

A celebration of all that’s wonderful about cycling to work rather than driving or taking public transport, national Cycle to Work Day, organised by Cyclescheme, celebrated its 10th year on 4 August by encouraging everyone around the country to commute by pedalling.

As an event for everyone, from those who haven’t climbed on a bike since schooldays to committed cycle commuters, it was all about jumping on board, joining a community of cyclists, and getting a bit of a feel-good cardio thrown in for good measure.
However, this time round, there was an even more pertinent reason to pedal a bit faster – to help cut the cost of travelling to and from work.
“As the cost-of-living crisis shows no signs of slowing down, our recent research with Cyclesheme shows that employees are feeling anxious over fuel and travel costs (65%), as well as much reported utility bills (77%),” said Adrian Warren, Director of Blackhawk Network. “And with costs continuing to increase, employees are asking their employers for support. Figures show cycling to work now offers commuters the ability to save up to £780 each per year (£1,400 in London), and cycle schemes could offer significant support for employees to navigate the cost-of-living crisis.
