Crews battle Dorchester garage fire through the night

FIRE crews fought through the night to stop a garage fire in Dorchester spreading to surrounding properties.

The blaze was reported at around 2.38am today (May 9) in Mountain Ash Road.

Firefighters from Dorchester and Weymouth initially attended but at the height of the incident there were five teams on the scene, from Dorchester, Weymouth, Maiden Newton, Bere Regis and Yeovil (Devon and Somerset FRS).

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels, main lines and the aerial ladder platform (from Yeovil) to extinguish a fire in a garage which, prior to our arrival, had spread to a neighbouring garage,” a Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.

Crews had the blaze under control by 5.35am and will return this morning to “reinspect and offer fire safety advice to neighbouring properties”.

An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway, the spokesperson added.
