Crash near Sturminster Marshall left man in his 70s in hospital

A MAN was taken to hospital after a crash near Sturminster Marshall.

The incident, on the A31 near Stag Gate, involved a brown Mitsubishi Outlander and a Ford Torneo Custom people carrier towing a caravan and happened at around 3.05pm on Friday (August 4).

Emergency services attended the scene and the driver of the Mitsubishi, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were not believed to be serious.

The occupants of the Ford did not sustain injuries that required hospital treatment.

The road was cleared and was reopened shortly before 6pm.

PC Rich Shirley, of the traffic unit, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please get in touch.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage, including the manner of driving of the vehicles involved prior to the incident.

“This collision resulted in the closure of a main trunk road during a busy period as the emergency services responded and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the incident.”
