Crash closes A303 in both directions near Stonehenge

THE A303 is closed in both directions after a crash near Stonehenge – with the route not set to re-open until this evening.

National Highways said the stretch, between the A360 and the A345, would be closed for “several hours” after a crash.

They said Wiltshire Police was informed of the closure at around 10am and the latest update from National Highways said it was expected the A303 would re-open at between 7pm and 7.15pm.

Diversions are in place while the incident is managed:

Road users travelling westbound are advised to follow the hollow circle diversion symbol:

  • Leave the A303 westbound at the Countess Roundabout and take the 3rd exit onto the A345.
  • Follow the A345 to the roundabout with the A3028 and take the 1st exit onto The Packway.
  • Continue on The Packway until the junction with the B3086 and turn left onto the B3086.
  • Proceed on the B3086 to the roundabout with the A360 and take the 2nd exit to continue straight and onto the A360.
  • Follow the A360 back to the A303 Longbarrow Roundabout and take the 3rd exit back onto the A303 westbound to continue your journey.

Road users travelling eastbound are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol:

  • Leave the A303 eastbound at the Longbarrow Roundabout and take the 1st exit onto the A360.
  • Follow the A360 to the roundabout with the B3086 and take the 2nd exit to continue straight onto the B3086.
  • Continue on the B3086 to the junction with The Packway and turn right onto The Packway.
  • Proceed on The Packway to the A345/A3028 roundabout and take the 3rd exit onto the A345 south.
  • Follow the A345 back to the A303 Countess Roundabout and take the 1st exit back onto the A303 eastbound to continue your journey.
