Confusion over Dyke’s Way road closure at Wincanton Business Park

COMMUTERS in Wincanton were faced with delays this morning after a major through road was closed.

Roadworks are taking place in Dyke’s Way, with a section of the route closed to traffic.

As workers started to arrive – as the road is the only way in and out of the Wincanton Business Park – large lorries and others were faced with a diversion.

That diversion took vehicles through the Crocker Way estate, meaning many large lorries and vans could not get through.

“It was madness,” said one driver. “The roads on the estate are narrow and people park all down one side, so there was no way the big lorries were getting through.

“They had to back up because they couldn’t get through. But there’s no other way to the business park, so I don’t know what they will do.”

Then, at just after 8.30am, workers at the closure removed barriers blocking the road into the business park, allowing traffic to flow.

The road closed signs remain in place.

Somerset Council has been contacted for comment.

The road was opened up to traffic in both directions at around 8.30am
