Child airlifted to hospital after crash at Cerne Abbas

A CHILD was airlifted to hospital after a crash near Dorchester this morning (April 6).

Dorset Police received were called to the scene, on the Old Sherborne Road near Cerne Abbas, at around 10.26am.

One vehicle, a white Fiat Punto, was involved in the crash, which happened between Piddle Lane and Alton Lane. Road closures were put in place as the emergency services responded.

A child passenger was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to serious injuries. Their family has been informed. Another passenger from the vehicle was treated for minor injuries.

PC Tracey Downer, of the traffic unit, said: “We are conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and our thoughts are with the family of the child who was seriously injured.

“We would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage, to please make contact with us.

“I would also like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures.”
