Cherries away at home

AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust team put residents at Care South’s Fern Brook Lodge in Gillingham through their paces as they all took part in a little football practice after 18 months of virtual practice sessions.

The team made their way around the home, making sure everyone was able to get involved, using specially designed seated football games to bring out the competitive streak in residents and gave expert demonstrations of the intense training and exercise regimes that the Cherries players undertake to reach the highest level.

Jan Howell, activities lead at Fern Brook Lodge, said: “The residents absolutely love interacting with the coaches and getting involved in the activities.”

The visit from the community sports team is part of the partnership between AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust and Care South, which began in 2014, which allows residents, home care service users and staff to get involved in a variety of activities.
