Chance for Newt members to star in BBC series being filmed in Somerset

A SOMERSET attraction is calling on members to star in a BBC series being filmed at the venue.

The Newt in Somerset, near Castle Cary, is a location for a BBC docu-drama set in the late Roman Republic, centred on the life of Julius Caesar.

Crews are set to use the venue’s Roman Villa as a location for the series, with filming set to begin this month.

It means the villa will be closed until the end of July.

But a spokesperson said the filming did bring about an opportunity for members to explore acting roles.

“The good news is, as part of their filming, the BBC Studios crew are looking for people who would like to participate as extras – from senators to soldiers and townsfolk – and we asked if our members could get involved,” they said.

“So if you’re a member, please keep an eye on your inbox for all the details on how to apply.

“No previous acting or toga-wearing experience required.”
