Busy A361 route near Shepton Mallet to close for resurfacing work

A MAJOR route near Shepton Mallet will be closed in the evening for over week next month.

The A361 between Dean and East Cranmore will be shut for resurfacing work between January 8 and 19, Somerset Council has confirmed.

The “essential” work can only be done under a full road closure, with the road closed on weekday evenings between 6.30pm and 11.30pm.

Access will be maintained throughout for homes and businesses.

Councillor Mike Rigby, lead member for transport and digital, said: “This road surface is showing significant signs of deterioration and it is essential that we carry out this work – this is a really busy route.

“Carrying out the work during evenings will minimise disruption for road users during peak hours.”

During the closure, a diversion will be in place.
