VIDEO: Bus crashes into wall in quiet Marnhull street

UPDATE: Three taken to hospital after bus crashes into wall in Marnhull

A WALL at a listed property in Marnhull has been badly damaged after it was hit by a bus this morning.

The incident happened at around 10am on the corner of New Street and Schoolhouse Lane, involving a South West Coaches vehicle.

Owner of the property damaged, a Mrs Johnson, said it was the third time a vehicle had hit the wall in the last 10 years.

“There was stuff all over the place, the letterbox is over,” she said.

“It is all listed, so will probably have to come down. The damage is vast.”

A Dorset Police spokesperson said the incident was reported at just after 10am.

“Officers attended with ambulance and fire services,” they added. “Recovery has been requested. Local authority has been made aware.”

New Street is certainly not quiet. This junction is really tricky, and I’m surprised there are not more accidents here. But I feel very sorry for Mr & Mrs Johnson, who have had their wall damaged on multiple occasions as its a listed wall and insurance companies don’t make it any easier.

The reporter clearly does not know New Street. It is anything but quiet, especially around school drop off and pick up. I feel so sorry for Mr and Mrs Johnson who have suffered over the years from this problem. About time the road authorities took note and banned larger vehicles ( lorries, tractors, etc) from New Street altogether.

You can ban tractors from new street or buses for that matter. It’s a rural area and tractors need access to farm land, buses are required for transport of people. Dorset is built on a farming community, I am sure people like eating 3 times a day 365 days a year. The road layout need changing, lower speed limits, 20mph perhaps at that point in the village, a mirror to help vision. I do feel sorry for me and mrs Johnson as it’s a very beautiful wall but access is also required by large vehicles.

The road is clearly not wide enough for vast vehicles to pass through. This is not the first time the wall has been hit and no action has been taken to stop this from happening again in the future.
