Broadband rollout in Wincanton set to be finished next month, says Gigaclear

MORE than 2,500 Wincanton households and businesses will soon be able to access super-fast broadband.

Engineers from Gigaclear are due to complete work to extend full fibre broadband connections in the town next month.

Work to connect Wincanton began in 2022, with the installation of fibre optic cables, street by street.

Senior project manager, Glynn Richardson, said the firm was working hard to ensure people in places like Wincanton can access ‘fast and reliable full fibre broadband’.

“Taking our full fibre to rural communities that might otherwise have copper or an inferior part fibre broadband connection fundamentally changes them for the better because it creates choice for the people in those communities about how they work and how they live their lives,” he said.

The street-by-street rollout hasn’t been all plain sailing, however, as in May last year, residents in Balsam Fields, Wincanton, were left stunned when they found their driveways had been ‘blocked in’ by engineers carrying out the work, with Gigaclear apologising.
