Body found in search for missing Sturminster Newton man

POLICE who were searching for a missing man in Sturminster Newton have found a body.

23-year-old Damian was reported as missing near the area of Station Road in the town at around 3am on Saturday, May 17.

Officers from Dorset Police subsequently located a body in the area of Newton Hill at around 12.45pm last Saturday (May 24).

Formal identification has not yet taken place, but police said it is believed to be Damian, and they have informed his family.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained, and HM Coroner has been informed.

Police renewed an appeal to find Damian last week.

Temporary detective superintendent Nicky Jenkins, of County CID, said residents can expect an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues.

“Our thoughts are very much with the family and loved ones of Damian at this extremely difficult time,” he said.

“I would like to thank all those involved in the search efforts to locate him, including the Coastguard and volunteers from Dorset Search and Rescue.

“There will still be an increased police presence in the area as police activities continue.”
