PUPILS at a Blandford school have been doing their bit to support the town’s food bank.
The Bryanston Prep School pupils, along with parents and staff, created more than 100 ‘recipe bags’ full of essential ingredients so food bank users can make a range of tasty home-cooked meals.
Each bag, carefully assembled by the pupils, contained all the necessary ingredients to prepare meals like cottage pie and tuna pasta, ensuring that families in need can enjoy nutritious home-cooked food.
The school recently held a harvest festival service at St Martin’s Church, led by school chaplain reverend Davis, where donations were collected for the Blandford Food Bank.
“Humanity and a sense of community is at the heart of what we do at Bryanston,” said Bryanston’s head of charities and community engagement, Doc Fearnley.
“Our pupils are aware of the struggles faced by many people in our local area and understand the importance of coming together to offer support and help in any way they can.”
This week also saw generous donations of children’s coats and pyjamas by prep school families to the clothes bank at The Centre in Ferndown, which is linked to Wimborne Food Bank.
A school spokesperson said: “These donations are part of Bryanston’s ongoing commitment to support its local community and local charities and promoting a compassionate and socially responsible environment for its pupils.”
Blandford Food Bank is one of five food banks in Dorset run by Christian charity Faithworks, in partnership with local churches.
The Blandford Food Bank doesn’t just give out food – it also offers debt advice, housing advice from organisation Shelter and Soveriegn Housing as well as benefits advice.
There are also colleagues available from Victim Support and REACH Drug and Alcohol Services.
