All dressed up as Hanford School celebrates founder

THUNDER and lightning couldn’t dampen spirits at Hanford School in Child Okeford when the school came together to celebrate one of its founders.

Enid Canning and her husband, the Reverend Clifford Canning, founded Hanford in 1947 and on ‘Mrs C’s Day’ fancy dress was the order of the day, many girls making their own costumes, for an afternoon parade on the lawn.

Staff joined in the fun, with a matador, Robert the Bruce, Joan Lennon and Victorian washerwomen making an appearance.

New school head Hilary Phillips was a frog, and the parade was followed by skits performed by each year group and a tea.

Hilary said: “Hanford was out in typical style – the individuality and creativeness of the girls shone through.

“It was lovely to see them having so much fun together while celebrating Hanford’s history and traditions.”
