A39 Puriton Hill roadworks: Delays expected during resurfacing work

DRIVERS are facing some delays during resurfacing work on the A39 Puriton Hill this week.

Somerset Council’s highways team is resurfacing a section of the busy route, with work running until October 10.

The work will see temporary traffic lights in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day until then, although the road will be open as normal on Saturday and Sunday (October 7 and 8)

The road will then be closed between Wednesday 11 October and Tuesday 24 October so that the resurfacing can be completed; but the hours will shift to a night closure.

It will be shut between 8pm and 7am each night – and while the road will be open at weekends, it will be necessary for traffic to run on a temporary surface.

Councillor Mike Rigby, the council’s executive lead member for transport and digital, said: “It is vitally important that Puriton Hill is resurfaced now.

“We apologise for some short-term disruption, but work is being phased over weekdays and then nights to try and mitigate this as much as possible. Please ensure you plan ahead.”

Access for residents and businesses in the area will be maintained throughout and a diversion will be in place, the council said.
