Tractor burnt out after blaze at busy Somerset roundabout

A TRACTOR was destroyed by fire on a busy Somerset road this morning (July 24).

Firefighters were sent to the scene, on West Hill, Wincanton, at just after 8.30am to reports of a tractor ablaze.

Police were also sent to the site, on the roundabout with the A371, to control traffic.

The burnt out shell of the tractor was still in the road at 9.30am as traffic navigated around it.

A Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said a crew from Wincanton repsonded to reports of “smoke coming from underneath the cab”.

“On arrival, the tractor was well alight, and crews immediately got to work using two breathing apparatus (BA) wearers and two hose reel jets (HRJs) to bring the fire under control,” they added.
