A COMBINE harvester was “destroyed” by fire in a Somerset field, which was also badly burned.
Firefighters from Yeovil, Wincanton, Sherborne and Gillingham were sent to the scene – in Compton Pauncefoot, near the A303, at just after 11.30am this morning (July 14).
“Two fire engines and a water bowser were initially sent, however once in attendance crews confirmed this vehicle and field to be well alight and requested another two fire engines,” a Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.
They added crews used two hose reel jets and beaters to extinguish the blaze, which started accidentally, and left the combine “totally destroyed” and damaged around 600m x 100m of the field.
