Poundbury man arrested in connection with rape in Weymouth town centre

A MAN has been arrested in connection with an alleged rape in Weymouth town centre.

Detectives investigating the incident, at between 2am and 2.30am on Thursday morning (June 18), have taken a man in his 20s and from Poundbury into custody.

The arrest comes after a woman in her 20s was reported to have been raped in Clifton Place, Weymouth.

Detective Chief Inspector George Graham, of Dorset County CID, said: “This has been a fast-paced investigation and as a result of our detailed enquiries, a suspect has now been arrested on suspicion of rape.

“We are continuing to support the victim and she is being kept updated with developments in the investigation.

“We are continuing to appeal for any witnesses, or anyone who may have captured relevant dashcam, home CCTV or doorbell camera footage, to please come forward.

“I appreciate incidents of this nature may cause concern for the local community and officers can be approached by anyone with information or concerns.”
