WILTSHIRE Council has officially launched a new community lottery scheme promising cash prizes of up to £25,000 while funnelling money directly into good causes across the county.
More than 90 Wiltshire organisations have already signed up to the Wiltshire Community Lottery before the first draw takes place on Saturday, June 6.
For every £1 ticket sold, 50p will go directly to a cause chosen by the player, with additional funding also being redirected into wider community projects through Wiltshire Area Boards.
The launch comes as many charities and community groups continue to struggle with rising costs and shrinking funding.
According to Wiltshire’s State of the Sector Survey in 2025, more than half of organisations said funding pressures were now a major challenge.
A photocall at County Hall this week brought together some of the first clubs and charities to sign up for the scheme.
Cabinet member for communities Cllr Mel Jacob said local organisations desperately needed new sources of income.
“We have been delighted with the response from local good causes so far, with many we’ve spoken to about the lottery eager to get involved,” she said.
“There are many groups, clubs, charities and organisations in Wiltshire that support our communities and make Wiltshire such a great place to live and work, but they need more financial support.
“We have listened to them, and this lottery will help them thrive and grow.”
Players can buy up to 20 tickets a week and choose exactly which organisation benefits from their entry.
The council has partnered with Gatherwell, which already operates similar lotteries for more than 150 councils nationwide.
Tickets are now on sale through the Wiltshire Community Lottery website, where groups can also register to join the scheme.
