A YELLOW weather warning has been issued for this weekend as strong winds are set to batter the UK.

The Met Office said journeys are expected to take longer and some bus and train services will be affected as Storm Amy – the first named storm of the season – develops in the North Atlantic.

The yellow weather warning has been issued for the whole of the UK from 12am tomorrow (Saturday October 4) to 7pm.

Gusts of up to 55mph are expected in places, with these reaching 65mph in coastal areas. Winds are expected to ease later in the day on Saturday.

Power cuts are also expected.

The Met Office said: “Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.

“People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.”

Heavy rain is also expected, creating an additional hazard for motorists, and localised flooding is also possible.
