COMMUNITY groups across the county are being encouraged to apply for a share of £155,000 in funding to help improve much-loved local spaces.
Dorset Council has reopened its Capital Leverage Fund, offering grants between £1,000 and £25,000 to not-for-profit organisations with projects that could make a lasting difference in their communities.
The scheme has previously helped organisations upgrade facilities that residents rely on every day, and council leaders say they are keen to support even more grassroots projects this year.
Funding can be used for a wide range of improvements, including renovating community buildings, creating new facilities such as car parks or multi-use games areas and upgrading outdoor spaces, theatres and sports clubs.
Projects linked to climate change, arts, culture, heritage and museums are also eligible.
Portfolio holder for customer, culture and community engagement Cllr Ryan Hope said: “These grants help local groups improve the places where people meet, stay active and take part in community life.
“In the last funding round, eight projects shared more than £70,000, helping communities adapt and improve facilities that are well used and valued by local people.
“We know this funding can give community organisations a real boost, and we’re keen to see strong applications from across Dorset. Good luck!”
The grants can cover up to 20% of project costs, with applicants required to secure the remaining funding before money is released.
Applications are now open and will close on January 10, 2027, with funding decisions made in September 2026 and January 2027.
Community groups can find out more, including eligibility criteria and how to apply, through the Capital Leverage Fund page.
Separate funding is also available through the Dorset Council Youth Fund for organisations supporting children and young people.
